Acai Addiction

What exactly is an açaí berry? (Açaí is pronounced ah-sah-EEEH!) It is a fruit that is about a size of a grape, dark purple, extremely rich in antioxidants, and can be found in the Amazon rain forest in Brazil. It is extremely hard to buy açaí fruit mainly because they grow in subtropic regions in Central and South America. Although we can purchase some preserved ones here in the U.S. So you're probably wondering where you can get some? My friend David asked our old bjj coach (who spent majority of his life in Brazil) and he was informed that unfortunately it is hard to find here in U.S.... but don't you worry~ you can get some acai puree from Whole Foods. I recommend Sambazon. We also bought some freshly made cranberry granola (my fave) to put on top of the açaí bowl. Of course, you may experiment and try different toppings, etc. etc. but here is my recipe:

1 oz. almond milk

1 whole banana
1 cup raspberries, blueberries, strawberries
2 tbsp. coconut flakes

Blend the acai puree + half the berries + half of the banana altogether into a blender.
Top it off with granola and the rest of your fruits. Anddddd that's it, my friends! Super easy eh? Indeed it is! Approximately takes 10 minutes to make one! Acai bowls are very addicting I must say. I also love the fact that they are a great source of antioxidants, as well as rich in amino and essential fatty acids. ENJOY!
